Double kick
For this project, I created a series of custom drum skin designs for Josh Freese, drawing inspiration from his well-loved poodle artwork. The challenge was capturing the charm and attitude of the original character while adapting it into strong, high-impact graphics suited for a live performance environment. The finished pieces combine expressive illustration with clean layout work, giving his drumkit a distinctive, playful identity that stands out on stage.
Although in the end the design was modified and pared down, it was still incredible to see the artwork come to life on Josh’s drums. Even with the adjustments, the character and energy translated beautifully, and seeing the visuals in a real-world performance context was an amazing experience.
